Future of Legal Cannabis in Germany

At the recent “Future of Legal Cannabis in Germany” panel at Mary Jane Berlin , voices from across the globe came together to reflect on where we stand—and where we need to go. 🇩🇪🇨🇭🇳🇱🇺🇸

It was a privilege for Marc Brüngger our Head of Innovation & Regulation to bring the Swiss perspective to the conversation. As part of Switzerland’s pioneering pilot projects, we’ve been gathering real-world data that helps destigmatize cannabis and build trust in regulatory frameworks— one study participant and one step at a time.

Switzerland’s approach — starting with science, defining clear rules before full market entry — have already shown that safe access, education, and data transparency can not only protect consumers but also create regulatory pressure to move away from the black market. This is not a theory — it’s already happening.

That said, no one country has all the answers. What stood out most in this panel was the shared spirit of collaboration. Experts from the Netherlands, the US, and Germany contributed critical perspectives — from regulation to technology to law enforcement — underlining how essential it is that we build smart, integrated systems that serve both public health and economic responsibility.

🤝 A warm thank you to fellow panelists moderated by Dirk Heitepriem: Jürgen Bickel, Lewis Koski, Niels Lutzhöft, Theo Tekstra.

Each voice brought valuable insights and reminded us: we’re at a historic moment, and how we act now will define the future of cannabis policy in Europe.
